Union Square 1959 Christmas Eve Concert
Union Square Christmas Eve Concert
About This Item
On Christmas Eve, 1959 engineers at KCBS had to scramble when rainy weather doused plans to carry the annual Chfristmas Eve concert from San Francisco's Union Square to a nationwide audience via the CBS network.
The broadcast was re-arranged, with performers heading indoors. KCBS left a few microphones around Union Square to add some ambience to the broadcast.
KCBS announcer Deane Stewart anchors the broadcast. Mayor George Christopher and Down Town Association President Albert Schlesinger are heard as well.
