Hank Greenwald's Final Giants Broadcast
Hank Greenwald's Final Giants Broadcast
About This Item
On September 29, 1996, Hank Greenwald called his last game as a radio play-by-play man for the San Francisco Giants. His farewell came in Denver, where the Giants lost to the Colorado Rickies by a score of 12-3.
Greenwald (1935-2018) was inducted into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2009.
This recording was captured on cassette tape from the Giants KNBR radio broadcast and digitally preserved by Geoff Alexander, who contributed it to the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame. Some digital effects have been applied to the original file to improve clarity.
It includes Greenwald's final play-by-play inning as well as the Postgame Wrap segment, which turned into a tribute to Greenwald. It was an all-star cast that day: fellow Giants broadcasters Mike Krukow, Duane Kuiper, Ted Robinson and Lon Simmons can all be heard; all of them are Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame inductees in their own right.
