Ron Lyons KEWB Aircheck, 1962
About This Item
Asheville, NC native Ron Lyons (born Ron Tomberlin, 1938-2004) came to Northern California in 1960 and would appear on a number of popular stations before retiring from KCBS in 2004.
Lyons would be inducted into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2007, shortly after his death.
This example of his on-air work finds him at Oakland's KEWB early in his Bay Area career, in the summer of 1962. The Top 40 station programmed by Chuck Blore was known as "Channel 91". Elements of Lyons' trademark offbeat humor can be heard within the fast-paced presentation.
