Olde English 800 Commercial "It is the Power"
Olde English 800 Commercial "It is the Power"
About This Item
The heavy marketing of malt liquor products to what some called the "'urban contemporary market" in the 1970s and 1980s would lead to complaints in the late '80s that brewers were targeting Black and Hispanic consumers to the detriment of their health.
This radio advertisement aired in 1981 on Berkeley station KBLX. At the time, Olde English 800 had an alcohol by volume (ABV) percentage of around 7.5% in California, higher than most standard beers of the era. Olde English 800 had been launched by Blitz-Weinhard Brewery of Portland, OR in 1964. Blitz-Weinhard was acquired by Pabst Brewing Company in 1979.
