- The heavy, 80’s new romantic make-up look on this white woman modeling the Iranian Revolutionary gown was essentially an act of caricature. The overwhelmingly homogenous modeling and fashion industries provided very little West Asian/North African representation and for artists and designers like Mortezaie, the tactic to cope was to exaggerate and hyper-orientalize the models, in order to highlight the glaring lack of women and people of color in the industry which often profits off these non-western aesthetics and styles without reverence or credit.
