The inclusion of the DNA strands into the design connects with the artist’s relationship to a world deeply damaged by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Those affected were essentially treated as societal door mats— as rugs, so to speak, deteriorating under the foot of a country unwilling to do something about the disease.
