About This Item

Front: Collage with a largely yellow and red color palette. Phrases comprise the background, stating “over one million served,” “no less than ten thousand dollars a day,” “fast_fashion,” “over one,” along with rows of McDonald’s burgers. An illustration of supermodel Linda Evangelista as McDonald’s spokesperson Ronald McDonald is situated at the center. Back: The back of the piece features renditions of three McDonald’s Cheeseburgers.

Story
Designed as a kind of a 90’s flashback, this collage merges the iconography of one of the world’s most renown supermodels, Linda Evangelista, who famously wouldn’t “get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day,” with the face of the fast-food corporation mascot Ronald McDonald. The imagery comments on the consumerism and consumption of the era, while simultaneously dabbling in narcissistic tendencies— the Evangelista figure was actually modeled after Mortezaie’s longtime collaborator and design partner, Michael Sears, in drag as Linda Evangelista, rather than the model herself.
