Story
Faramarz and Mahtab, a married couple, are anxiously awaiting the death of their 120-year-old aunt. They want to split the inheritance and go their separate ways, but shocking events derail their plans and unearth the dark secrets of their aristocratic family. The play shows the shattered dreams of a young, vivacious Iranian woman faced with the obstacles of a patriarchal society. "Sleeping in an Empty Cup" was first produced in Tehran in 2003 and won the Best Play Award at the Fajr Theater Festival.
