Gas Light Fish and Chips on Castro - 1981
About This Item
Gas Light Fish and Chips at 506 Castro Street. Fish & Chips has closed and the Midnight Sun is about to relocate to 18th Street. In the pre-gay era, this was a straight bar called The Gem. Between 1970 and 1975, it converted to a gay bar. The name "Midnight Sun" may correlate to the Scandinavian past in the neighborhood. The bar was successful here but moved to 18th Street for more room.
