North at the east side of Fillmore from Hayes Street - 1983
About This Item
Old Holy Family Convent is on the corner. The Convent played a big role in the aftermath of the 1906 fire. In 1958 the Holy Family Sisters moved their mother house to the Mission-San Jose area of Fremont, but still maintained 893 Hayes Street as a convent until its sale in 1979 to the Pride foundation, a gay-oriented service agency. In the late 1980's, Walden House, an institution that runs drug treatment centers, purchased 890 Hayes Street from the Pride Foundation.
