Alamo Park High School - 1983

Southeast corner of Pierce and Hayes. The school was built in 1910 as the Denman Grammar School. James Denman was a pioneer teacher with a spectacular record in San Francisco. In the 1940s, the Denman Grammar School moved farther west and this building became the Louise Lombard School for the Disabled. They left in 1980 when they swapped sites with Opportunity High School and moved to 700 Font near San Francisco State University. Opportunity High School became the Alamo Park High School and specializes as a "last-chance" high school for students who were failing in larger high schools. The school was later re-named the Ida B. Wells School after the civil rights activist against lynching in the 19th Century.
