Bliss House at 1347 McAllister Street - 1978

About This Item

Built in around 1900 for Charles Bliss. Shortly after arriving, in 1883 Czech immigrant Karl Wencenlas Qutil changed his name to Charles Henry Bliss. In 1906 after the earthquake, the Bliss family, without their oldest son, moved back to Bohemia and remained there 9 months. Described as a French Classical Baroque apartment building, one of three in San Francisco. The ballroom is on the top floor. Photo by L. Stephenson.
