Northeast corner of McAllister and Scott Street - 1997

About This Item

The corner building is 1492 McAllister is known as the Atkinson House, after the first owner. The tower came with the building which was built right when stick-style was being replaced by Queen Anne Style. A fire in 1977 essentially destroyed the tower, which was rebuilt without any embellishing facade work and looks sort of lonely. This tower predates 1198 Fulton St.'s tower by one year. Next to 1492 are a set of Edwardian flats built in 1902. The trees on the right mark the original mansion that sat in the middle of the block (Lind-Motzart Mansion), demolished for a parking lot around 1964 for Third Baptist Church.
