Southwest corner of Scott and Fulton Street - 1987
About This Item
Middle Queen Anne built in 1899; fire-burned building dates from 1911. The 1911 site is connected with an Alamo Square squatter named Dutch Charlie Duane. He was exiled from the City for stuffing ballot boxes. When he returned in 1860, he discovered that much of his claim had been taken over by the City for Alamo Square park. He brought suit in court but finally lost in 1877. He had constructed a shanty at 711 Scott Street to protect his squatters' rights to the property. That shack was probably the earliest building to be built around the block.
