908 and 906 Steiner Street - 1987
About This Item
908 was built in 1888, a Stick-style Victorian. Sometimes called Psychadelic House. From 1966 to 1976 a hippie commune lived here and painted the house in pyschadelic colors. It was a wild color scheme that refocused attention on Victorians. For a while, the house sported a life-sized alligator attached to the facade, inspired by the Grateful Dead's song Alligator.
