Sanborn Map - Steiner, Grove, Hayes, and Fillmore Streets
About This Item
The street at the top is Steiner Street, on the right is Grove Street, on the bottom is Fillmore Street, and on the left is Hayes Street. The building in red is 975 Grove Street (The Amos House), and was highlighted on Professor Max Kirkeberg's walking tour. The footprints of the 700 block of Steiner Street at the top is the footprint of the homes now called "The Painted Ladies." The buildings that are colored yellow had been demolished and replaced by newer buildings. Nearly all of Hayes Street was once occupied by one building, the Sutro Mansion, which was demolished, subdivided, and rebuilt after the Victorian era.
