Bernal Library - 2009, during upgrade

About This Item

Around this time, San Francisco passed a major bond issue to upgrade most branch libraries. Here, they are putting on a new roof, adding handicapped accessibility, modern bathrooms, computer upgrades, and more. Like other San Francisco neighborhoods, Bernal Heights is intensely supportive of the library and would fight any attempt to close it due to budget constraints or any other reason. The library may have been built with Carnegie funds and WPA labor.
