At the bottom of the slide are both lanes of Highway 101, north and south bound. On the right side is the beginning of an industrial area. At the left is Potrero Hill, with regular homes on the far left. The last street separating Potrero Hill from the industrial area is 26th Street, which will later be filled with loft apartments on the very steep slopes. The East Bay Hills are almost obscured, as is a small part of the San Francisco Bay. The smokestack in the distance was most likely owned by Pacific Gas and Electric. Compare to slides from 1979 and 1982 to see the new family housing development on Potrero Hill. The row of gabled homes is on the site of what was once public housing. These developments sold to first time homebuyers at an affordable price. Note that the gas storage tanks are gone, but the smokestack remains in the background.
