Romeo-style flats at 138-140 Eureka Street near 18th Street - 1978

About This Item

This building is Romeo style, so named for the balcony and because it followed the Victorian style; the apartments were smaller, and appropriate for "newlyweds." This may be a vernacular style peculiar to San Francisco. This is also an early example of elaborate color schemes as a sign of gentrification. The lower flat was for rent for $290/month in 1978.
