The home was built in 1902 by the builder, Fernando Nelson. This is a Queen Anne Victorian, and the home and studio of San Francisco artists, Ray Little and James Raidl, who specialized in producing stained glass windows. In the early 1990's, Mr. Little and Mr. Raidl moved to the wine country, north of San Francisco. The asking price for this home at that time was $445,000. Their home was featured in the Sunday Chronicle Image Magazine on May 15, 1988. As an example of how quickly home prices rose, 27-9 Hartford, only a few homes away from 49 Hartford, was for sale in the 1990's. This address had three units, and the asking price was $549,000. In 2008, one unit (now a condo) was for sale; its asking price was $899,000. In all likelihood, when this was built, it was simply an attic. At some point, the attic was remodeled into livable space.
