About This Item

At the bottom of the photo is Nobby Clark's Folly mansion with the turrets. The Castro Theater is in the center-right. Market Street is seen in the center -note the Trinity Methodist Church (red brick) at Noe Street before it burned down. The U.S. Mint is on the left just before the high-rises. In front of it is the St. Francis Lutheran Church, with a steeple and black roof. On the horizon from the left are the Federal Building at 450 Golden Gate Avenue, the white Hartford Building, and behind it the TransAmerica Building. To the right is City Hall, the St. Francis Hotel, the black Bank of America Building, the Hilton Hotel tower, Embarcadero Center tower, and the Russ Building (low and red) -once the tallest until the 1960s. To the right of the Russ Building are the CSAA Annex (now converted to condos), the dark Fox Plaza building, the Call building (survivor of the 1906 fire), and a Bank of America Building. The tall light grey building is the Pacific Bell building at 140 New Montgomery Street. Next is the Bay Bridge and the 76 tower.
