The American Indian Center at 229 Valencia Street - 1983

About This Item

The building was built in 1914 by and for the Serbian Benevolent Society until 1969. In the 1970s and 1980s this became the American Indian Center and then the name was changed to Native American Arts and Culture Center. By 1994, the center had closed and relocated to Julian Street and 15th Street. On the ground floor there is a Greek-American food imports store to compliment the Greek Orthodox Church located just to the south of here.
