Valencia Street side of the southwest corner of 16th Street and Valencia Street - 2012

About This Item

Note the widened sidewalk with trees compared to previous slide from 1988. A check cashing business occupying the corner space has been at this location for many years. The building is three stories and was built in 1907 and named the Mission Central. In 1924, it became the Hotel Valencia. By 1976, the building was a mess and a local disgrace. So, in 1984, it was renamed the Valencia Inn, and operated as a bed & breakfast. In 1985-86, the building was repainted and refurbished as Casa Valencia. It was owned and operated by Mission Housing Development & Neighborhood Corporation. The ground floor remains rental commercial spaces.
