Two Italianate Victorians from 1876 - 1988

About This Item

These two Victorians once looked identical, but the one on the right has been stripped of most of its Victorian touches around the windows and the roof-line, and looks to be covered by asbestos. In the next slide from 2012, it has been 're-Victorianized' while its sedate neighbor to the left, has completely changed. The house on the left, from 1980 to 2008, was a female-only bathhouse called Oscento, which closed when the owner wanted to retire. The front parlor had lockers for clothes with showers beyond that, and then a room with a soaking pool. In the garden were two round cedar saunas, one with steam and one dry. No sex was allowed, but unlike Kabuki Spa, talking was permitted - it became a great place to meet women.
