The Marsh Theater at 1062 Valencia Street - 2012

About This Item

"A breeding ground for new performance." The "theater" began with Peggy Howe and Stephanie Weiseman in 1989, with a Monday night performance series at the Hotel Utah. In 1990, they moved into the back room at Cafe Beano (878 Valencia Street), now Cafe Ethiopia. In December 1992, they moved to the current location and purchased the space in 1996; this included two theaters -the upstairs theater being a youth theater- , a comedy club, and a cafe. It was called Marsh because Weiseman lived for a while on the edge of a marsh and observed it as a breeding ground for new life.
