About This Item
The street running catty-corner from the lower left corner is Shotwell Street and in the middle of Shotwell Street is the blue Cesar Chavez Elementary School on Shotwell Street, mid-block between 22nd Street and 23rd Street. The lower half of the slide shows the residential area of the Mission District. The industrial sections of the Mission District run in a band, left to right, about two-thirds up the slide. Marking the northern margin of the industrial landscape is the Central Freeway. Within the industrial landscape at the far left is the U.S. Steel Building between 15th Street and 16th Street running from Folsom Street to Harrison Street. At the upper far right in the industrial band is a tall grey building with black windows which is the old Hamm's Brewery, and below is a cream colored building with a tower at 17th Street and Alabama Street. To its left is the Lily Anne "Picasso" mural at 17th Street and Harrison Street. At the upper left corner is the double-steepled St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 10th Street and Howard Street.
