Telephoto north northeast from Bernal Heights - 1999
About This Item
The bottom third of the photo is a largely residential landscape in the inner Mission. The diagonal street on the bottom is Folsom Street, where the trees end and the industrial area begins. Left-center is the gabled roofline of the former U.S. Steel building, now the MUNI car barn at 16th Street and Folsom Street. The red brick building above it is the UCSF office building. Towards the right-center is a building with a tower at 375 Alabama Street at 17th Street. Farther right is the grey building with black windows, which is the former Hamm's Brewery building. There is a long horizontal line above U.S. Steel, which is most likely the Central Freeway and marks the end of the Mission District's industrial area. Note South of Market Street (SoMa) and downtown buildings in the background.
