View from 44 Peralta Avenue of the beginnings of Potrero del Sol Park - 1980

About This Item

The street that goes from the middle left to the lower right corner is the 101 on ramp to 101 South from Potrero Avenue and the street at the bottom of the slide is Cesar Chavez Street. The park on the left is Rolph Playground. The hill at the top is Potrero Hill, and the trees on the skyline on the left mark McKinley Square. Just to its left is the top of the Bank of America building. Just below McKinley Park are the new white buildings of SF General Hospital and the old brick structures are to its left and not as distinct. Two larger buildings that frame the north edge of the new park are a brown building, which is basically a warehouse, and to its right is an ivory colored building which is Buena Vista Elementary School. The isolated buildings near the lower right corner, above the freeway on ramp, were associated with an organization called The Farm. Slides 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 13 and 14 all taken from 44 Peralta Avenue show the evolution of the new park.
