About this collection

The Poetry Center's In Common Writers Series, supported by the Walter & Elise Haas Fund. Taking its initial inspiration from the Thinking Its Presence 2017 conference on race and writing, the series pairs visiting writers and artists from outside the area with (mostly) Bay Area artists with whom they share strong affinities. From Fall 2018 through Fall 2020, the series presented a dozen artist combos: Janice Lee and Brenda Iijima, Jasmine Gibson and Juliana Spahr, Maryam Ivette Parhizkar and Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle, Felice Lucia Molina and Ali Warren, Darius James and Val Jeanty, Tim Z. Hernandez with Marguerite Muñoz and René Juarez-Vasquez, Fay Victor and Myra Melford, Caren Beilin and Amy Berkowitz, Raquel Salas Rivera and Vanessa Angélica Villarreal, Jennifer Bartlett and Denise Leto, Prageeta Sharma and Dodie Bellamy, and John Yau with Andrew Joron and with Claudia La Rocco.
