Maged Zaher reads Egyptian Poets: April 23, 2015
The Poetry Center presents poet, editor, and translator Maged Zaher reading from The Tahrir of Poems: Seven Contemporary Egyptian Poets (Alice Blue Books, 2014). This brief anthology, edited and translated by Zaher, brings together work by seven Egyptian poets between the ages of 25 and 33, all (but for the work here by Amira Hanafi) originally written in Arabic. These young poets, in Zaher’s words, “had their own aesthetic revolution against the bareness of cultural life under Mubarak.” The reading is followed by Zaher responding to questions from his audience.
