John Pluecker and Jen Hofer: September 26th, 2018

Jacob Kahn of E.M. Wolfman Books greets the audience, then Steve Dickison introduces David Buuck, who makes opening remarks about the Tripwire Cross-Cultural Poetics Series in its collaboration with The Poetry Center. John Pluecker begins the night reading from his poetry collection Ford Over: "Coahuila," "Vista," "Tome at Hotel Norte," "[we decided]," "[Abundan en esta nacion]," and "[June]." Pluecker then introduces Jen Hofer, who begins by reading poems from Uruguayan poet Virginia Lucas's Ame.RICA (tu valor de cambio), followed by Hofer's translations of the book, as Ah.me.RICH.ah (your exchange value): "Algo debe cambiar, es la manana," "(Something needs to change, it's morning)," "Domino," "(Dominon)," "A LA VIRGIN MARIA," and "(TO THE VIRGIN MARY)." Pluecker returns, performing poems from an unpublished manuscript, Green Go Home: "Trollope in PaIs M," "The Philosopher," "Hacia Ciudad V," and "Fun at Night." Hofer resumes the performance with poems from her unpublished manuscript of new works called conditions. "conditioning (i'm sitting in a metal box)," "conditions (what we said we did not say),' "conditions (what we knew to be known)," "future somatics to do list (a love letter to traci akemi kato-kiriyama)," "conditions (what dateless body)," "conditions (what small folded body)," and "conditioning (I'm biking through the world)." Pluecker rounds out the evening reading three poems from an unpublished work in progress, each poem untitiled. Hofer and Pluecker then briefly field questions from the audience.
