Ted Rees and Alana Siegel: February 13, 2014

The Poetry Center presents a reading and conversation with Ted Rees and Alana Siegel. Rees reads from what he says are older poems and newer poems. Siegel reads from ARCHIPELAGO (Station Hill Books, 2013), just released at the time of this event, after opening with an excerpt from Robert Duncan's The Opening of the Field. The poets' readings are followed by a conversation between the two of them and with their audience.

Ted Rees (00:25:39)

Ted Rees begins with his poem "The Animal Reconstituting Itself," then reads the epigraph to his piece "Enter The Dragon," followed by the poems "No Titles," "Responses To The Apologist" 1, 2, 3 & 4, among others. He also reads a number of untitled poems from a sequence titled "Endless/Revolt."

Alana Siegel (00:26:24)

Alana Siegel speaks to her connection with Ted Rees, talks of Psyche and Eros, then reads an excerpt by Robert Duncan, from his "Poem Beginning With a Line by Pindar." She then reads multiple poems, reading as she says "straight through," from her newly released book ARCHIPELAGO.

Conversation (00:32:52)

Rees and Siegel together answer questions from the audience on a range of topics from word choices and working in prose to the differences between 20th and 21st century poetry and poetics.
