Edward Dorn's Collected Poems: October 4, 2013
The Poetry Center presents a reading in celebration of Edward Dorn: Collected Poems (Carcanet Press, 2012), edited and with a preface by Jennifer Dunbar Dorn, with Justin Katko, Reitha Patison, Kyle Waugh; afterwords by Amiri Baraka and J. H. Prynne.
After remarks on the Subterranean Arthouse by Maya Dorn, Steve Dickison provides a brief introduction, noting the sequence of those appearing. Contributors to the evening include, in sequence, Jennifer Dunbar Dorn, Maya Dorn, Joanne Kyger, Micah Ballard, Eileen O'Malley Callahan, Steve Dickison, Patrick James Dunagan, Stephen Emerson, Gloria Frym, Owen Hill, Kevin Opstedal, Cedar Sigo, Sunnylyn Thibodeaux, and Duncan McNaughton.
The evening's program is bracketed by screenings of archival video: from September 19, 1974, and from October 30, 1997, of Edward Dorn reading his work as recorded by The Poetry Center at SF State, and by Kush/Cloud House at UC Berkeley's Maude Fife Room, respectively.
Note: the quality of this digital video from Fall 2013 is compromised due to the loss of master-files from failure of a 'failsafe' set of mirrored hard-drives; fortunately, a compressed video file could be retrieved from DVD backup. The original 1974 Poetry Center video excerpt of Dorn's reading was inserted into the present video program; that full 1974 video is here.
