David Melnick: April 23, 1984
The Poetry Center presents David Melnick, in what is apparently the only existing recording of the poet performing his work. He reads "the first 351 lines" from Book II of Men in Aïda, his homophonic, homosexualized "phonetic transcription" from the Ancient Greek of Homer's Iliad. Jim Hartz, Poetry Center director, introduces Melnick, at Intersection for the Arts, in its location on Union Street in San Francisco's North Beach, with the program co-presented by Intersection and The Poetry Center, San Francisco State University.
Note: Melnick shared the event with Armand Schwerner, whose portion of the original recording is not yet digitized, and will be added here subsequently.
