Maxine Chernoff and Gillian Conoley: May 1, 2014

The Poetry Center presents Maxine Chernoff and Gillian Conoley, reading their poetry then joining in conversation with one another and the audience. Chernoff reads from an unpublished work of poetry that she says she is in the process of refining for an upcoming book. Conoley reads a selection of poems from her book Peace (Omnidawn, 2014). Steve Dickison introduces the poets.

Maxine Chernoff reads as yet unpublished poems from a new un-named manuscript, including but not limited to: "The Work of the Poem," "Event," and "Saved." 

Gillian Conoley (00:27:59)

Gilian Conoley reads from her book of poetry entitled Peace. She reads various poems, among them: "Opened," "Trying to Write a Poem About Ghandi," and "Plath and Sexton."

Chernoff and Conoley follow their readings by responding to questions from the audience, discussing among other subjects the intentionality behind their writing and suggestions for writing practices to adopt.
