To the People of Iran — Music for a New Year's Liberation: March 16, 2023

The Poetry Center, the Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies, and the School of Music at SF State, co-present “To the People of Iran — Music for a New Year’s Liberation,” a celebration of the Iranian New Year in solidarity with the Iranian people's protests erupting over the preceding months. The program features multiple musical performances by Bay Area-based Iranian musicians. During intermission, a 7-minute slideshow, first shown at the Asian Art Museum and titled “Women Life Freedom,” presents artworks from Iranian artists gathered by the ArtRise Collective, in collaboration with Mozaik Philanthropy.

This among other programs under the banner WOMAN. LIFE. FREEDOM. is made possible with support of a College of Liberal and Creative Arts 2023 "Extraordinary Ideas" grant, with additional support from the Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies, The Poetry Center, the George and Judy Marcus Endowed Chair in Poetry, and the Department of History and Department of Philosophy, San Francisco State University. The overall project was originated by Persis Karim (Neda Nobari Distinguished Chair, Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies) and Hafez Modirzadeh (School of Music), who both make opening remarks, with the concert organized and introduced by Modirzadeh.

For video and audio editing (and camera work) for this Spring 2023 program, thanks to Jesus Rodriguez.
