Kathleen Fraser: June 22, 1973

The Poetry Center presents Kathleen Fraser, reading her poetry shortly after coming to San Francisco from Reed College in Portland. She reads from the manuscript to her first book, What I Want (Harper & Row, 1974). Fraser, joining the Creative Writing faculty at SF State, had been newly hired as Poetry Center director, during which tenure she founded and helped secure funding for the American Poetry Archives to maintain the Center's recorded collections. The video recording features a mix of shots and two-camera effects, an editing experiment with the new medium by the videographer. 

Marginalia: the original video recording includes a segment with students goofing off with balloons that takes place in the same room, apparently following Fraser's reading.
