Josiah Luis Alderete, Sara Borjas, Aideed Medina: October 5, 2023
The Poetry Center presents Mazza Writer in Residence for Fall 2023, Josiah Luis Alderete, together with Sara Borjas and Aideed Medina. The poets each perform mostly recent work, with Medina reading from her new book 31 Hummingbird: a suite of poems (editorial Xingao, 2023) among other poems; Borjas, American Book Award winner for Heart Like a Window, Mouth Like a Cliff (Noemi Press, 2019), reading new work from manuscript; and Alderete, author of Baby Axolotls & Old Pochos (Black Freighter Press,2021) and co-proprietor of Medicine for Nightmares bookstore and gallery, performing a number of newer works.
The Mazza Writer in Residence program is supported by the Sam Mazza Foundation.
Note: the first portion of Aideed Medina's reading is presented via audio only, due to a camera failure; video (thanks to the presence of BECA students at work on a project involving the poets) begins for the last portion of Medina's reading and continues throughout. Audio drops out briefly in the early part of the recording.
