Al Young: May 25, 1974
The Poetry Center presents Al Young, reading from his poetry and fiction. Young reads poems from The Song Turning Back Into Itself (Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1971) and Dancing (Corinth Books, 1969) and from an unpublished manuscript under the tentative title, Some Recent Fiction. He also reads a poem by Ishmael Reed, from the premier issue of Hambone — the first issue of which came out in Spring 1974, produced by the Committee on Black Performing Arts at Stanford, some eight years before Nathaniel Mackey brought out issue 2 in 1982. . He is introduced for The Poetry Center by Anne Waldman, for this event presented at a Bay Area conference of the Coordinating Council of Literary Magazines (CCLM).
