Ai and Faye Kicknosway: November 14, 1974

The Poetry Center presents Ai and Faye Kicknosway, reading from and commenting on their poetry. Ai reads from Cruelty (Houghton Mifflin, 1973) and new unpublished poems. Kicknosway, MA graduate of San Francisco State, reads a span of poems from A Man Is a Hook. Trouble. Poems 1964–1973 (Capra Press, 1974) and newer work. Kathleen Fraser, director of The Poetry Center, provides the introductions, at San Francisco State University.

Ai reads and comments on poems from her debut book, Cruelty: "Twenty-Year Marriage," "Abortion," "The Tenant Farmer," "I Have Got to Stop Loving You," "Young Farm Woman Alone," "The Hitchhiker," "Cuba, 1962," "Child Beater," "Women," "Everything: Eloy, Arizona, 1956," "Before You Leave," and "New Crops for a Free Man."

She then reads newer, as yet unpublished poems: "The Mortician's Twelve-Year-Old Son," "Jericho," "Christ Bracero," "Bless Me, Father," and "He Kept on Burning."
