Alice Notley and Bill Bathurst: February 18, 1976
The Poetry Center presents Alice Notley and Bill Bathurst, reading their poetry at San Francisco State University. Notley reads new work, from For Frank O'Hara's Birthday (Reality Street, 1976) and poems which would appear in Alice Ordered to Be Made (The Yellow Press, 1976), and otherwise would be collected decades later in her Early Works (edited by Nick Sturm, Fonograf Editions, 2023). Bathurst follows, reading a span of poems and prose reaching back to 1959, and as appearing in his publications including For Juletta (Cranium Press, 1967), Greystone Poems (1970, No. 11 of the limited edition Maya Quartos printed by Clifford Burke at Cranium Press), and How to Continue (Glide Publications, from Glide Memorial Church, 1973), among other work. Lewis MacAdams, director of The Poetry Center, introduces the poets, in the erstwhile Barbary Coast Room of the César Chavez Student Center at SF State.
