Dick Gallup and Victor Hernández Cruz: March 3, 1976

The Poetry Center presents Dick Gallup and Victor Hernández Cruz, reading from their poetry at San Francisco State University. Gallup, of the Tulsa, Oklahoma branch of the New York School of poets, after years in New York City and at the time teaching in South Carolina, reads The Wacking of the Fruit Trees (Toothpaste Press, 1975) and poems from Above the Treeline (soon to appear from Bill Berkson's Big Sky Books, 1976). Hernández Cruz, who was born in Puerto Rico and moved to New York City as a child, was living at the time in San Francisco; he reads from his book Mainland (Random House, 1973) and, in manuscript, from Tropicalization (Reed, Cannon & Johnson, 1976). Lewis MacAdams introduces the poets, in the erstwhle Barbary Coast Room of the César Chavez Student Center at SF State.
