Grace Paley and Tillie Olsen: March 9, 1977
The Poetry Center presents Grace Paley and Tillie Olsen, each reading from their fiction. Paley, for her first ever reading on the West Coast of the US, reads from her story collection Enormous Changes at the Last Minute (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 1974). Olsen, an alumnus of the writing program at San Francisco State University, reads from her novel Yonnondio: From the Thirties (Delacorte Press, 1974). Lewis MacAdams, director of The Poetry Center, introduces the two writers for this packed-house event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, its Van Ness Avenue location in the War Memorial Opera Building.
Note: MacAdams's introduction to Tillie Olsen is clipped short; a bar of video distortion unfortunately persists at screen center through the first half of her reading, subsequently clearing.
