The Poetry Center presents Ariel Goldberg and Simone White reading and in conversation in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Poetry Project at St. Marks Church in New York City. Ariel Goldberg reads from The Estrangement Principle (Nightboat Books, 2016) and previously published works. Simone White reads from a forthcoming work titled Dear Angel of Death (due from Ugly Duckling Presse, 2017). The readings are followed by a conversation with the audience, focused on each writer's work and on the history, present, and future activities of The Poetry Project.

The Poetry Center presents Charles Reznikoff and George Oppen in an early reading from their respective books, By the Waters of Manhattan and The Materials, among other work. Both books, co-published by New Directions/The San Francisco Review, for each of the poets was their first book publication by a prominent publisher, and for Oppen his first published work since his 1934 debut Discrete Series, almost three decades prior.

The Poetry Center presents David Henderson reading a retrospective selection of poems, from his earliest published works to the present, and in conversation with the audience. Henderson reads from Felix of the Silent Forest (Poets Press, 1967), De Mayor of Harlem (E.P. Dutton, 1970), The Low East (North Atlantic Books, 1980), Neo California (North Atlantic Books, 1998), and newer work from manuscript, including a work-in-progress “For Gil Scott-Heron.” His reading is followed by a conversation with the audience.

The Poetry Center presents Gregory Pardlo reading from his books Totem (Copper Canyon Press, 2007) and Digest (Four Way Books, 2014), the latter for which he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in poetry for 2015. The event was co-sponsored by The Poetry Center, and the Departments of Creative Writing, English, and Creative Writing at San Francisco State University.

Wendy Trevino reads from her chapbook, Brazilian Is Not a Race (Commune Editions, 2016) and from unpublished work. Oki Sogumi reads the introduction to Smear Jelly Dreaming A goo daughter & Time Travel and Friendship (Museum of Expensive Things, 2016), and from unpublished work. The poets' readings are followed by a conversation with the audience.
