Location excerpts shot on 16mm film from episode 9 of KQED's 1968 series Blacks, Blues, Black!, which features Dr. Maya Angelou interviewing Mary Jane Hewitt of UCLA, who accompanies her as they meet with community members on the streets of Watts in Los Angeles. Dr. Angelou is trying to establish how the process of urban regeneration has been progressing since the social unrest ("riots") there in 1965. This on-location film footage was probably shot by KQED camera operator Allen Willis (1916-2011). Note that the complete episode can now be viewed in DIVA. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
This 16mm color reversal film print was re-scanned in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in February 2023. Film shrinkage was measured in February 2023 at 0.40%.
