San Francisco city employee wages
About This Item
KTVU News report from March 6th 1974, featuring scenes from a press conference with Mayor Joseph Alioto on negotiating San Francisco city employee wages. Also includes views of a separate press conference, in which Supervisor John Barbagelata (1919-94) argues that all city employees deserve a uniformly fair pay structure.
Note that conservative Barbagelata was a candidate in the 1975 San Francisco mayoral election, which he narrowly lost to George Moscone. As of 2014, he was the last Republican to be elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (in 1973). Thanks to Michael Semler for identifying Barbagelata in this clip.
