Hippie Funeral in San Francisco II
About This Item
KRON-TV news footage from October 6, 1967, featuring scenes from the euphoric aftermath of a 'funeral' ceremony for the hippie movement in San Francisco's Haight Ashbury. Includes views of an outdoor rock concert by The Grateful Dead, Hells Angels and youths dancing around a bonfire. We think some of the opening scenes were shot earlier on August 28, 1967 at the wake for Chocolate George and this appears to be confirmed by edge numbers on the Ektachrome film stock. The 16mm film elements on this reel were heavily edited during the Berkeley in the Sixties project, by a 3rd party and returned to KRON in this form, 20 years before the station passed it to the archive. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
This 16mm reversal print was re-scanned in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in November 2024.
