Country Joe & Sons of Champlin play San Quentin

KPIX Eyewitness News report from October 11th 1969 with reporter Evan White, featuring scenes from a rock concert by Country Joe and the Fish and Sons of Champlin at San Quentin State Prison. This was the first annual rock festival at San Quentin, held in the lower recreation yard with 2100 of the 3450 inmates in attendance. Initially proposed by inmates, prison authorities approved the concert after working with music producer Yuri Toropov. Includes an interview with Associate Warden Jim Park, who explains in more detail how this concert came to pass, despite concerns over the "drug culture" associated with rock music at the time.
