Part I of a KPIX-TV special program commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on May 27th 1987, presented from Sherman House by Dave McElhatton and Wendy Tokuda. Includes scenes of huge crowds celebrating in Chrissy Field and a montage of archival footage from the 1930s, showing the ground breaking ceremony on February 26th 1933 and bridge construction during the mid 1930s. Also includes reports featuring: interviews with people who witnessed the bridge's opening in 1937; views from the Slice Blimp above the bay; the tall ship Jacqueline; a flyover by antique biplanes and interviews with singer Tony Bennett and Mayor Dianne Feinstein.
