One would like to think that we have come a long way since 1969 towards better identification and removal of toxic food additives from the marketplace, but unfortunately the government agencies lag far behind private health professionals in condemning harmful food ingredients. 

The cancer rate in the US would be much lower if the public was made aware of what their food actually contained so they could avoid eating harmful foods, or if manufacturers were mandated to remove food additives that are likely to cause cancer even if overwhelming scientific evidence has not yet been accumulated to prove it.

I can only hope that the situation improves.
